Quick question: can I use another dealership's price from farther away (like 2.5 hours away) to ask for the same price for the same car (new car) closer to where I live? Or will they laugh me out the door and I will rightly just drive a few hours to the other dealership?
It's like 4k off MSRP btw...

Probably won't hurt to try, but I've never heard of that working.

I'm not Tom, but I'd try it. It worked for me back in 2011.
If you have to drive then just drive. It's $4000, not $200.

That's a pretty normal tactic. Make sure the price is real first (ie no discounts you don't qualify for, no crazy fees) then ask the local guys to beat it. If they won't go to the other joint.

Oddly enough it did for me. They had to call and verify the price, etc etc but in the end I had a few extra bucks in my pocket.

I've never tried it, but what have you got to lose by asking? All they can say is "No".

I don't really mind the drive, in fact Id love it as there are some great roads on the way.
The car is not really in the color I want, that is it, so I thought if try here, but you are right; I don't think I'd even pay $500 extra for paint, let alone 4k!

is a Cars.com price considered real, or should I do some digging?

You definitely need to call them. The last car I bought had a cars.com price that was crazy low. Turned out that to get that price you had to be active duty military, a recent grad, own another Ford, be trading in a competitors car, and take their in-house financing. It also had a couple factory incentives in there. They stacked all those discounts on-top of each other for the advertised price. It's kinda doubtful that any one person would really qualify for all that.

Even if it turns out not to be real you can still print it out and try using it as a bargaining chip. Doesn't hurt.
